Since our chapter’s inception in 2010, we have donated over 1.7 million dollars to local nonprofits in the Tri-Cities area. Our chapter supports organizations that provide services within Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg.
-
Each member donates $100 per meeting, totaling $400 annually.
Donations go to non-profits serving the Tri-Cities or surrounding communities (no national charities).
Proof of non-profit status must be provided before the meeting to be eligible.
Members submit their names and organization for a drawing; three names are selected to present.
Each presenter gets 5 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions. Only the presenter can answer.
Emergency causes may be added if needed.
The group votes by ballot during the meeting, with the majority decision determining the chosen cause. All members donate to the selected cause.
Non-profits not chosen can be re-entered at future meetings but can only present twice per year.
Lobbying for an organization before the meeting is prohibited.
Non-profits may not use members' names for future solicitations. Violations result in removal from future consideration.
Recipients are encouraged to share information about their selection on social media or through email to their supporters.
Selected organizations cannot pitch again for 12 meetings.
Meetings are held at the Spring Lake Country Club.
Membership is open to all women to increase community impact.
-
Upon arrival at the meeting, any member of Tri-Cities Women Who Care who has a local, not-for–profit organization, charity or cause they are interested in representing, puts her name and the name of the organization on a card that is placed in a box.
At the beginning of the meeting, three cards are pulled from the box.
The person selected has five minutes to plead her case for her organization—followed by five minutes of questions from the large group.
At the end of the three presentations, the large group votes by secret ballot. The ballots are tallied and the members write their checks to the organization with the most votes. The checks are collected and delivered to the selected organization.
